Thousands of Years of Time and Space (4-in-1 poster for Beijing 2008 Olympics)
4 in 1 poster design for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing introduces an Eastern city to a Western audience who would visit Beijing during the2008 Olympics. The piece is 80x80 inches, a combination of four 40x25 inches posters. The idea was to use the Beijing City Axis as a guideline to introduce the city’s culture. Some of the most notable landmarks from the 10th to 21st century are located on the City Axis, lining up like pearls on a string. The 2008 Olympic Park has been built at the north end of the City Axis. Paralleling many of those in other countries, these individual landmarks place themselves in significant positions in the history of the world. Based on a time line, I created four topics, and under each topic, I used cultural comparison to integrate the artifacts and monuments of both Eastern and Western cultures to connect two diverse cultures and histories. This project won the AIGA Culture in Design Competition Award.
